Japan Golf Two-Player Surcharge: 2B割増 Explained

In Japan, two players can often book, but 2サム保証 and 2B割増 mean different things. One tells you about pairing; the other tells you about extra cost.

Quick answer

2B割増 means a two-player group may pay an extra charge because the group has only two golfers instead of the usual three or four. The charge is usually per person, but always read the exact plan wording.

2サム保証 is different. It usually means your pair can play without being paired with strangers. A plan can have 2サム保証 and still charge 2B割増.

The three phrases to separate

Do not treat every “two-player” phrase as the same thing.

  • 2サム保証: your two-person group is normally guaranteed as a pair.
  • 2B割増: an additional charge for a two-player group.
  • 割増なし: no stated surcharge for the condition shown.

The safest plan for a couple or pair is usually one that clearly shows 2サム保証 and either 割増なし or a surcharge amount you are willing to pay.

How much is the extra charge?

There is no single national rule. The amount depends on course, date, season, day of week, and tee time.

As a planning range, many small-group surcharges are roughly ¥1,000 to ¥5,000 per person, but premium courses and busy dates can be higher. The booking page should show the actual amount for that plan.

Do not average it from another course. Read the selected plan.

Why one course can show different answers

The same course may sell several plans on the same day:

  • Morning slot: two players accepted, surcharge applies.
  • Later weekday slot: two players accepted, no surcharge campaign.
  • Weekend slot: minimum three or four players.
  • Afternoon or twilight slot: two players accepted under different meal and bath conditions.

Changing the start time can change the answer.

What if there are three players?

Three-player groups can also have a surcharge, often shown as 3B割増. Some plans waive 2B割増 but still charge 3B割増, or the reverse.

If a third player may join later, check both 2B and 3B wording before booking.

Pairing is a separate question

If the plan does not show 2サム保証, the course may pair your group with other golfers. Look for wording around 組み合わせ, which means pairing or grouping.

If you strongly want a private twosome, do not rely on price alone. Confirm the twosome guarantee.

FAQ

Does 2サム保証 mean no surcharge?

No. It normally describes pairing, not price. You still need to check 2B割増 or 割増なし.

Is 2B割増 charged per group or per person?

Often it is per person, but the selected plan wording controls. Check whether the page says per person, per group, or shows the final total.

Can I avoid the surcharge?

Sometimes. Try a weekday, less popular start time, campaign plan, or a course that clearly shows 割増なし for two players.
